My last book I read

The last book I read, at the moment, the novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky - "Demons". This novel, Dostoevsky began to write as a sharply modern thing, in direct connection with the events of the “nechaev process”.

In November 1869, a crime was committed in Moscow, reported by all Russian newspapers: a group of conspirators led by Sergei Nechaev killed a student of the Petrovskaya Agricultural Academy I. Ivanov. The crime was committed in a remote part of the academy's park, in a grotto, the body was thrown into a pond. Soon, the murderers were arrested, but Nechaev fled abroad. It turned out that student Ivanov decided to break with the secret revolutionary circle due to the changed views. Nechaev persuaded the other members of this circle to kill, in order to avoid denunciation by Ivanov, but secretly he wanted to finally enslave all these people, “to bind with blood”. Dostoevsky closely followed the ups and downs of this process. He carefully read the Catechism of a Revolutionary, composed by Nechayev, which outlined the principles of the revolutionary activities of this radical secret organization. A revolutionary, according to Nechaev, has neither family, nor friends, nor the Fatherland. His whole being is aimed at achieving the main goal: revolution, rebellion. This goal justifies any means to achieve it, including criminal ones. So this terrible ideology led Nechaev and his comrades to murder.

Dostoevsky saw in this crime a symptom of a cruel public malady with unpredictable destructive consequences. He decided to write a work in which he wanted to show how dangerous this denial of religion, morality, family, and human connections is. So was born the idea of ​​"Demons".

Оказалось, что студент Иванов решил порвать с тайным революционным кружком в силу изменившихся взглядов. Нечаев уговорил других членов этого кружка на убийство с тем, чтобы избежать доноса со стороны Иванова, но втайне он хотел всех этих людей окончательно поработить, "связать кровью". Достоевский пристально следил за перипетиями этого процесса. Он внимательно прочел "Катехизис революционера", сочиненный Нечаевым, в котором были обозначены принципы революционной деятельности этой радикальной тайной организации. Революционер, по Нечаеву, не имеет ни семьи, ни друзей, ни Отечества. Все его существо направлено на достижение главной цели: революция, бунт. Эта цель оправдывает любые средства для ее достижения, в том числе и преступные. Так эта страшная идеология привела Нечаева и его сотоварищей к убийству.

Достоевский увидел в этом преступлении симптом жестокого общественного недуга с непредсказуемыми разрушительными последствиями. Он решил написать произведение, в котором хотел показать, насколько опасно это отрицание религии, морали, семейных, человеческих связей. Так родился замысел "Бесов".
