Aleksey Apollonov
"Heroes"
живопись

31 may 2011 - 23 june 2011
Presentation - 31 may 2011, tuesday, 19.00

Portraits in collection of artworks by Alexey Apollonov always held a special place. On the one hand, they clearly inferior to the place of "metaphysical landscape", a perfect example of which the artist creates for years. On the other hand, background of his landscapes is usually full of human characters, too brisk, so that they can be ignored, too irrational, so they can be classified.

This time artist makes portraits of people of almost one social class, but in the end (as if he became scared of such classification cruelty) adds images of naked models and one and the only nature-mort “with fishes”. “Nature mort” vector might seem a whim of the artist but it is just an explanation of the whole idea: sketches (and there were dozens of them if not hundreds) fell as leaf litter on the floor of the workshop forming additional and extremely interesting mosaic. When Apollonov noticed this unusual effect, he took it on the art plane, where he combined simultaneously from four to six sketches on a single surface. It looks as if several phases of realization of one idea where put together on one easel, and you can’t either take one of them off or see the final result.

An intermediate stage transformed into sustainability, temporal got its status of perpetual; additional appeared to be formative and fundamental.

PopTrans in action

Transcarpathia is a unique area. This is not an advertising slogan for improving tourism potential. It is pure truth. Anyone who tries to deny this uniqueness will get retribution - while trying to arrange a meeting, fighting with a strange Transcarpathian language and their peculiar features of cosmological theories, or during severe hangover caused by yesterday's presentation, where huge wicker bottle of house wine was the central element of the study.

Transcarpathia is the land where traditions are carefully preserved, though are freely transformed in a variety of ways. Maybe this orthodox “bo tak musay” (“cause it has to be like this”) is one of the few ways to preserve their identity.

Some people say that Galician and Transcarpathian region is actually one single subethnos. To think that we are on opposing sides - the same as sitting on opposite sides of the same Carpathians. Or to be on different sides of the same table for coffee. Maybe this explains the phenomenon of "transcarpathian invasion" to the cultural life of Lviv, which is clearly manifested in recent years.

Or maybe something else. It does not matter. You have to understand by yourself. Because exhibition of Uzhgorod’s oldest art group "PopTrans" in the "Dzyga" gallery shows openly and frankly all that is fancy in Transcarpathian region: familiar uniqueness and digital traditions, multiculturality and unlimited auto-xenophobia, stupid giggling and deep philosophical study, friendly comfort and solemn grandeur. In short, "AYTUAY" is an eye-to-eye, a tete-a-tete, two-way mirror and a fascinating dialogue.

(In Wales more than 70 per cent do so, while in Northern Ireland only about 15 per cent, but about 45 per cent start their compulsory schooling at 4).

There are not enough state nursery schools in Britain and people have campaigned for a long time to get more opened. There are private nurseries but these are expensive and a lot of families cannot afford them. Children start at 9 a.m. and finish at 3 p.m., they have their lunch at school and usually a rest in the afternoon. They play, paint, dance and sing and do the same things that all little children do. They do not have proper lessons.

PRE-SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY EDUCATION in the U.S.A

Pre-school and elementary education includes nursery schools and kindergartens which are for children at the age of 4-6. Most of them are private. Many public schools have kindergartens attached, for the age group between 5 and 6. These kindergartens do not charge any money.

Compulsory education starts at the age of 6. Both elementary and secondary education is comprehensive in the U.S.A. - it means that there is no selection for various types of schools (every school learns the same subjects). Years are called "Grades" in the U.S.A. Elementary school lasts between 6 and 11 years of age. It is from the first till the fifth grade. The children at elementary schools learn to read, write, and do arithmetic, elementary science, history, geography, arts and crafts, physical education and music.

The atmosphere at elementary schools is usually friendly. Teachers keep to the idea that children's happiness and interest are the two most important things.

Task 1. Tell about Independent Schools in England.

Independent and preparatory schools are private ones too. They prepare children for public schools and take money for the training. After finishing grammar schools pupils have good knowledge and may continue studying in colleges and universities. English pupils wear school uniform. It is one of the oldest country's traditions. A boy's uniform includes a school cap, a tie and a blazer. A girl's uniform consists of a hat, a coat, a skirt and a blouse. The uniforms vary from school to school. Usually, they are dark.

Independent school (UK)

An independent school in the United Kingdom is a school relying upon private sources for all of its funding, predominantly in the form of school fees. In England and Wales the term public school is often used to refer to what is normally called in other countries a "private" school, a term which originally referred to those schools named in the Public Schools Act 1868. These schools themselves tend to prefer the term "independent school".

Some independent schools, particularly the more traditional institutions, also have charitable status. Research shows that UK independent schools receive approximately £100m tax relief due to charitable status whilst returning £300m of fee assistance in public benefit and relieving the maintained sector (state schools) of £2bn of costs. [ http://www.isc.co.uk/uploads/documents/Charity%20Commission%20final%20report.pdf ISC ] ] There are more than 2,500 independent schools in the UK, educating some 615,000 children, [ http://www.isc.co.uk/FactsFigures_PupilNumbers.htm ISC ] ] the Daily Telegraph claiming seven per cent of children are educated in private schools throughout the country. [ [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/10/09/nschools09.xml Soaring school fees put private education out of reach for many] ] Most of the larger independent schools are either full or partial boarding schools.
