2. Read and translate the text about  Russian Nobel Prize Laureates:

For most people Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) is known as the founder of prestigious prizes which are awarded annually for outstanding work in science, literature, economics and the promotion of peace. Alfred Nobel was the Swedish scientist and businessman who invented dynamite and built up companies and laboratories in countries all over the world, the best-known technical genius in Sweden in the 17th century, an era in which Sweden was a great power in northern Europe. Nobel was fluent in several languages, and wrote poetry and drama. Nobel was also very interested in social and peace-related issues, and held views that were considered radical during his time. Alfred Nobel’s interests are reflected in the prize he established. On November 27, 1895 Alfred Nobel dictates in his will that his entire remaining estate should be used to endow “prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind. ”

Since 1901, the Nobel Prizes have been presented to Nobel Laureates at ceremonies on 10 December, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death. As stipulated in Nobel’s will, the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine and Literature are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden, while the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, Norway. Since 1969 an additional prize has been awarded at the ceremony in Stockholm – the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.

The Russian scientists, writers and political figures were awarded the Nobel Prizes too: two in Physiology or Medicine (Pavlov, Mechnikoff), twelve in Physics, one in Chemistry, two in Economic Sciences, five in Literature (Bunin, Pasternak, Sholokhov, Solzhenitsyn, Brodsky), and two Peace Prizes (Sakharov, Gorbachev).
