These words are like twins, they look the same, but are different. The first one is part of the verb in Pr.Cont, the other one is gerund.
It’s a verb + ing (Ving). What’s the difference? They look like verbs, but are actually nouns.

As the subject of the sentence

Structure
The gerund can be:
1. Active Ving
# I am proud of inviting people over.
2. Passive being V3# I am proud of being invited to a party.
The negative form is not+Ving
# I am proud of not inviting them# I am proud of not being invited
Special Features
NB: We don’t use Passive Gerund after the verbs: need, deserve, require, be worth

He is boring.
Is it the gerund? No. Verb? No. It’s an adjective (прилагательное)
the -ed adjective is used for the person who has the feeling. In other words, a boring person makes us feel bored.
the - ing adjective is used for a thing (or person) that causes the feeling.
