There is an International Conference in Moscow. The theme of the Conference is «Information technology for Peace and Progress». Scientists from different continents are coming to the Congress: from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia and Africa. They are software and hardware engineers, programmers, designers and developers. The schedule of the Conference is busy: sessions, sittings, round-table talks, conferences, interviews, exhibitions and a large social program.

I am a representative of the Organizing Committee. I see that our group is large. There are 16 people on the list. There are 2 ladies and 14 gentlemen in our group. One man is not coming, he is ill. The others are coming in a day or two. All members of our group are attractive and hardworking. We are going to work hard at the Conference. The motto of our group is «Let’s make out world brighter».

I believe all members of our group are pleased to be in Moscow.

Now I’ll accompany you to the hotel. This is our bus, take your seats and make your comfortable.

Ladies and gentlemen! Dear friends!

It has become an important tradition to meet at the International Congress every year. We attach great importance to our friendship. We can learn a lot about the countries we are from, about traditions of our countries. Really friendship makes wonders.

On behalf of the participants of the International Congress it is my honor and duty to declare our press-conference open. I think we should create a friendly atmosphere and give the floor to our guests.

Our hotel is modern and well-equipped. We have single rooms and double rooms. The rooms are comfortable and clean. There is a private bathroom, a TV-set, a fridge in each room. The price for a night is reasonable. Breakfast is between 7 and 10 downstairs in the restaurant. Lunch is from 11 till 1.30, tea is about 5 and dinner is at 6 or 7. But our visitors can also order meal by phone.

There are coffee-stalls and snack-bars on every floor of the hotel. There is a news-stand in the lobby of the hotel. The hotel has some facilities: a barber’s and a hairdresser’s, a foreign currency bank, a post-office, a dry-cleaner’s, a shoe repair shop and a laundry. All of them are on the ground floor.

Our hotel was specially built for congresses, conferences and business meetings. If you want to have a meeting here you may use our conference-hall. It is equipped with the simultaneous multilingual translation system. It is on the 5-th floor.

And now, dear guests, I ask you to come to our receptionist to make arrangements about the rooms. Be polite. An English proverb says: «Politeness oils the wheels of life».

When people travel they almost always stay at hotels or guest-houses. It is necessary to remember the following:

1. The first thing to do is to book a room in advance by letter, telephone or telegram, or you may arrive at the hotel and be told that there are no rooms available.

2. On arrival at the hotel go to the reception desk and confirm your reservation. The clerk will then give you a registration form to fill in and sign (the form is filled in block letters).

3. At large hotels you may ask for any service by telephone. You tell the telephone operator if you want to be called at a certain time; you call room service when you want a meal or drinks; if you need something (say, a suit or a dress cleaned or pressed).
