Главная святыня Шахтинской епархии — Собор Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы. Сегодняшняя деятельность Покровского собора неотделима от общественной и культурной жизни города. Обитель является административным и духовным центром Шахтинской епархии, где находится кафедра правящего архиерея Преосвященнейшего Симона (Морозова Александра Васильевича), епископа Шахтинского и Миллеровского. Распоряжением Министерства культуры администрации Ростовской области №340 от 4 декабря 2001 года Шахтинский кафедральный собор отнесен к категории вновь выявленных объектов культурного наследия, памятников истории и культуры. При храме работают: духовно-просветительский центр «Логос»; курсы «Основы православной культуры»; церковно-приходская школа; библиотека; казачье молодежное объединение «Донцы». Его настоятелем в настоящее время служит иерей Симеон Есин. Современный Собор Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы в Шахтах — это православный однопрестольный храм, выстроенный в стиле эклектики. Шахтинский собор сегодня имеет: оштукатуренные стены, выкрашенные в белый цвет; 33- метровую колокольню; боковые приделы. Глубокое впечатление от посещения храма оставляют: пол из полированного мрамора и гранита; богатство внутреннего убранства; резной деревянный иконостас. Внутренние своды и стены собора расписал внучатый племянник А.М. Васнецова художник Алексей Абраменко. В соборе хранятся святыни (иконы, святые мощи), доставляемые из всех уголков России, а также из других стран. Многие святыни и реликвии обрели свое постоянное местоположение в соборе: Икона с частицей мощей Пантелеймона-целителя. Христиане возносят молитву этому святому об избавлении от самых трудноизлечимых и страшных недугов, об исцелении не только тела, но и души. Икона с частичкой мощей свт. Иоанна Златоуста. Молитва перед его ликом способствует укреплению в вере, одаривает мудростью и чудесным образом прививает духовность. Мощевик с частичками мощей: епископа Русской православной церкви, митрополита Ростовского и Ярославского, свт. Димитрия Ростовского, блаженного Павла Таганрогского, преподобного Амвросия Оптинского, преподобного Александра Санаксарского, мученика Меркурия, священномученика Евплампия, мученика Ореста. Частица гроба преподобного Сергия Радонежского. Частицы гроба великой княгини Елисаветы и инокини Варвары, праведника Феодора Ушакова, младенца от Ирода убиенного, равноапостольного князя Владимира, мученика Мардария.

The main Shrine of the Shakhty diocese is the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Mother of God. Today's activity of the Intercession Cathedral is inseparable from social and cultural life of the city. The monastery is the administrative and spiritual center of the Shakhty diocese, where the chair of the ruling Bishop is located his grace Simon (Morozov Alexander Vasilyevich), Bishop of Shakhty and Millerovo. By the order of the Ministry of culture of the Rostov region administration №340 dated December 4, 2001 Shakhty’s Cathedral is classified as newly identified cultural heritage objects, historical and cultural monuments. At the Church there are: spiritual and educational center "Logos"; courses "Fundamentals of Orthodox culture"; parish school; library; "Donets" Cossack youth Association. The priest Simeon Esin is the currently serves rector. The modern Cathedral of the Intercession of Mother of God in Shakhty city is an Orthodox single-altar Church built in the eclectic style. Today in Shakhty Cathedral there are: plastered walls, painted white; 33-meter five-dome; side temple chapel. A deep impression from a visit to the temple make: the floor of polished marble and granite; the richness of the interior decoration; carved wooden iconostasis. The internal arches and walls of the Cathedral were painted by the great-nephew of A. M. Vasnetsov, artist Alexey Abramenko. The Cathedral holds shrines (icons, Holy relics), delivered from all over Russia, as well as from other countries. Many shrines and relics found their permanent location in the Cathedral: an Icon with a particle of the relics of Panteleimon the healer. Christians offer a prayer to this Saint for deliverance from the most difficult and terrible ailments, for healing not only the body but also the soul. The icon with piece of relics of St. John Chrysostom. Prayer in front of his face contributes to the strengthening in the faith, bestows wisdom and wonderful way of instilling spirituality. In Cathedral there are the reliquary with the particles of the relics of: the Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Rostov and Yaroslavl, St. Dimitry of Rostov, blessed Paul Taganrog, St. Ambrose of Optina, monk Alexander Sanaksar, Martyr Mercury, Martyr Eulampius, Martyr Orestes. A particle of the tomb of St. Sergius of Radonezh. Particles of the tomb of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth and the nun Barbara, the righteous Theodore Ushakov, the baby of Herod the murdered, equal-to-the-apostles Prince Vladimir, Martyr Mardarius.
