must he must He must leave. He must not leave. Must he leave? When must he leave?
долженствование, обязанность (mustn't)   Who must leave?
can he can He can leave. He cannot leave. Can he leave? When can he leave?
способность, умение, возможность (can't)   Who can leave?
may he may He may leave. He may not leave. May he leave? When may he leave?
вероятность, разрешение (mayn't)   Who may leave?
should he should He should leave. He should not leave. Should he leave? When should he leave?
долженствование, рекомендация (shouldn't)   Who should leave?
ought to he ought He ought to leave. He ought not to leave. Ought he to leave? When ought he to leave?
долженствование, рекомендация (oughtn't)   Who ought to leave?
need he need He needn't leave. He need not leave. Need he leave? Who needn't leave?
необходимость (needn't)

CAN, COULD, BE ABLE TO

Не could read before he was five.   I couldn't pronounce the word correctly.
You can buy there anything you want. I couldn't phone him before nine.
Can I ask you a question? You can use my phone. You can't smoke here
Could you answer my question? Could yои tell me the time?

Can't/ Couldn't we stay just a little bit longer, please.

I can phone him today. He isn't able play the piano because her hand hurts.   I 'll be able to phone him in the evening. I haven't been able to sleep well lately. I could phone him yesterday.

I could get him on the phone. I managed to get him on the phone. I wasn 't able to start the car.
