Практический курс английского языка: учебное пособие для студентов 3 курса по учебной дисциплине ОГСЭ.03. Иностранный язык.
Данное учебное пособие разработано с учетом требований Федеральных государственных образовательных стандартов среднего профессионального образования (далее – ФГОС СПО) по специальностям 21.02.08 Прикладная геодезия, 21.02.07 Аэрофотогеодезия, 21.02.04 Землеустройство, 05.02.01 Картография, 09.02.04 Информационные системы (по отраслям) базовой подготовки на основе рабочей программы учебной дисциплины ОГСЭ.03. Иностранный язык и предназначено для организации практических занятий, а также самостоятельной внеаудиторной работы студентов по английскому языку.
Данное пособие включает лингвистический материал по следующим лексическим темам: “Learning foreign languages”, “Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies”, “My professional practice”, ”Concept of theodolite operation”, “Components of maps”, “Global positioning systems”, “Geographic information systems”, “Drones”. Пособие предполагает дальнейшее развитие навыков устной и письменной речи, чтения и перевода доступного по содержанию материала.
Каждая тема пособия включает оптимальную активную лексику по теме, систему предтекстовых и послетекстовых лексических упражнений и заданий. Информативная насыщенность текстов позволит расширить кругозор студентов, углубить их знания о специальностях учебного заведения.

Содержание пособия предполагает дальнейшее развитие иноязычной коммуникативной компетенции (речевой, языковой, социокультурной, компенсаторной, учебно-познавательной, профессиональной) и способствуют социальной адаптации студентов ФГБОУ ВО «СГУГиТ» НТГиК.
Использование данного пособия на занятиях по английскому языку в учреждениях СПО способствует:
- расширению активного словарного запаса и общего кругозора студентов III курсов;
- овладению навыками перевода и изложения текстов, подобранных из различных информационных источников;
- подготовке студентов к самостоятельному чтению аутентичной литературы, текстов профессиональной тематики;
- обучению студентов основам делового общения по профилю учебного заведения в устной и письменной формах;
- воспитанию гуманизма у обучаемых.

My job functions:
| 1. Adjust and operate surveying instruments, such as the theodolite and electronic distance-measuring equipment, and compile notes, make sketches and enter data into computers. 2. Obtain land survey data, such as angles, elevations, points, and contours, using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments. 3. Compile records of survey data obtained and work performed. 4. Direct work of subordinate members of party, performing surveying duties not requiring licensure. 5. Collect, analyze, and interpret geographic information provided by geodetic surveys, aerial photographs, and satellite data. 6. Research, study, and prepare maps and other spatial data in digital or graphic form for legal, social, political, educational, and design purposes. 7. Analyze survey data, source maps and photos, computer or automated mapping products, and other records to determine location and name of features. 8. Develop design concept of map product. 9. Identify, scale, and orient geodetic points, elevations, and other planimetric or topographic features, applying standard math formulas. 10. Travel over photographed area to observe, identify, record and verify all features shown and not shown in photograph. 11. Calculate latitude, longitude, angles, areas, and other information for mapmaking from survey field notes. 12. Verify identification of topographical features and accuracy of contour lines by comparison with aerial photographs, old maps, and other reference materials. 13. Form three-dimensional image of aerial photographs taken from different locations, using mathematical aids and plotting instruments. 14. Lay out and match aerial photographs in sequence taken, looking for missing areas. 15. Store, retrieve, and compare map information, using computers and data banks. 16. Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in drafting maps. 17. Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design specifications. 18. Maintain record of geographic data using special programmes. | 1. Регулировать и использовать геодезические инструменты, такие как теодолит и электронный дальномер, составлять отчёты, делать наброски и вносить данные в компьютер. 2. Получать такие геодезические данные, как углы, превышения, точки и контуры, используя электронное оборудование для измерения расстояний и другие геодезические инструменты. 3. Составлять отчёты о полученных данных съёмки и о проделанной работе 4. Руководить работой членов бригады, осуществляющих геодезическую деятельность, не требующую лицензии. 5. Анализировать данные съёмки, карты и фотографии, электронные карты и другие данные для определения местонахождения и названия объектов. 8. Разработать дизайнерскую концепцию картографической продукции. 9. Определить масштаб, геодезические точки, превышения и другие планиметрические или топографические черты, используя стандартные математические формулы. 10. Посетить топографируемую территорию для исследования, идентификации, записи и подтверждения объектов, указанных и не указанных на снимках. 11. Вычислить широту, долготу, углы, площадь и другую информацию, необходимую для создания карт, используя снимки. 12. Подтвердить идентичность топографических черт и точность линий контуров при помощи сравнения с аэрофотоснимками, старыми картами и другими материалами. 13. Создать трёхмерное изображение аэрофотоснимков, снятых с различных позиций, используя математические средства и градостроительные инструменты. 14. Разложить и сравнить аэрофотоснимки в определённой последовательности, определяя отсутствующие участки. 15. Хранить, извлекать и сравнивать картографическую информацию, используя компьютеры и банки данных. 16. Наблюдать и координировать деятельность служащих в работе по созданию карт. 17. Устанавливать оборудование и осуществлять мелкий ремонт системного и периферического оборудования, программного обеспечения, исходя из специфики модели. 18. Осуществлять запись географических данных, используя специальные программы. |

LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The problem of learning foreign languages is very important today. Students should learn foreign languages. They became important especially at the present time. Foreign languages are needed as the main and most efficient means of information exchange between the people of our planet.
English is one of the major languages in the world and geographically it is the most widespread language on Earth, with 400 million people who speak it as a mother tongue. In Shakespeare’s time, for example, only a few million people spoke English, and the language was not thought to be very important by the other nations of Europe, and was unknown to the rest of the world. The native speakers of English live in Great Britain, in the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. English is one of the official languages in the Irish Republic, Canada and South African Republic. As a second language it is used in the former British and US colonies. English has become a world language because of its establishment as a mother tongue outside England, in all the continents of the world. This exporting of English began in the seventeenth century, with the first settlements in North America. Above all, it is the great growth of population in the United States, assisted by massive immigration in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries that has given the English language its present standing in the world.

People who speak English fall into one of three groups: those who have learned it as their native language; those who have learned it as a second language in a society that is mainly bilingual; and those who are forced to use it for a practical purpose, administrative, professional or educational. One person in seven of the world’s entire population belongs to one of these three groups. Incredibly enough, 75% of the world’s mail and 60% of the world’s telephone calls are in English.
English has the largest vocabulary with approximately 500,000 words and 300,000 technical terms. It is the major international language for communication in such areas as science, technology, sport, business and mass media. English ought to be used as one of the official languages of the United Nations Organization and other political organizations. It is the language of computer software, literature, education, modern music, international tourism.
Learning a foreign language is not an easy thing. It is a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience. But every educated person, every good specialist has to know English because it is absolutely necessary nowadays.
It is well known that reading books in the original, talking with the English speaking people will help a lot. When learning a foreign language you are to learn the culture and history of the native speakers. You may learn any foreign language. They are all important.
