The Present Perfect Tense

(Настоящее совершенное время)

The Present Perfect Tense употребляется для выражения:

· прошлых действий своими результатами, связанных с настоящим:

I can’t finish the work. My computer has crashed;

· действий, начавшихся в прошлом и закончившихся к настоящему моменту или ещё продолжающихся в настоящем; обычно с предлогами – since (показывает с какого момента действие началось), for (показывает весь период выполнения действия до настоящего момента):

She has already read the book.

I have lived in this town since my childhood.

Наречия и фразы, характерные для употребления The Present Perfect Tense:

· since, for;

· just, ever, never, already, yet, so far, recently, lately;

· today, this week, this month.

1. Write the Past Simple and Participle II forms of the following irregular verbs below. Learn them by heart.

2. Use the verbs in the Present Perfect Tense. Translate the sentences.

9)I / never / visit / my mother-in-law.

3. Complete the sentences with since or for. Translate the sentences.

1) I haven't slept … 48 hours.

2) Jane hasn't been back to Hungary … last year.

3) Mandy has been ill … Monday.

4) I've read two books … the weekend.

5) He hasn't played the piano … he was a boy.

6) My boss has been away … half a day only.

7) She has been in hospital … Monday.

8) I haven't met Jill … the end of school.

9) They haven't visited us … Christmas.

10) We have received no news … 5: 30 pm.

11) Jane has worked here … two weeks already.

4. Use already or yet. Translate the sentences.

6. Make the negative form of Present Perfect or Past Simple.

1) I (see / not) anyone yet.

4) She (arrive / not) yet.

5) Emily (visit / not) me last week.

7. Make the interrogative form of Present Perfect or Past Simple.

1) (you / read) the book yet?

2) How many letters (they / write) so far?

3) When (he / tell) you that?

4) (you / be) at home last night?

5) How often (you / travel) abroad till now?

8. Read and translate the dialogue. Use the verbs in Present Perfect or Past Simple.

A: (you / taste / ever) sushi?

B: Yes, I (eat) sushi at least five times so far.

A: When (you / eat) sushi for the first time?

B: I (eat) sushi for the first time on my dad's 50th birthday. He (invite) the whole family to a Japanese restaurant.

A: (you / like) it?

B: Absolutely. In fact, it (be) so good that we (be) to that restaurant three times by now. And on my mum's birthday, we (order) some sushi and (have) it at home.

9. Choose Present Perfect or Past Simple.
