ROBIN HOOD GETS BACK HIS MONEY

One year from the day Sir Richard of the Lee borrowed four hundred pieces of gold (через год с того самого дня, когда сэр Ричард из Ли занял /у него/ четыреста золотых монет), Robin Hood was waiting for him (Робин Гуд ожидал его). He sent his three best bowmen to meet the knight (он отправил трех своих самых лучших лучников встретить рыцаря). One year from the day Sir Richard of the Lee borrowed four hundred pieces of gold, Robin Hood was waiting for him. He sent his three best bowmen to meet the knight. Little John, and Much the miller's son, and Will Scarlet.
They didn't meet Sir Richard, but they met a fat churchman, a monk (они не встретили сэра Ричарда, а встретили упитанного священнослужителя, монаха; fat — жир; полнота, тучность; fat — толстый, упитанный, тучный).
«Ah! » said Little John. «Do you think this monk is bringing the borrowed money (как вы думаете, этот монах несет одолженные деньги; borrowed — взятый взаймы)? Have your long bows ready (приготовьте свои длинные луки). »
There were fifty-two fighting men with the monk (с монахом было пятьдесят два вооруженных человека; fighting — воинственный, боевой), and seven strong horses carried his things (и семь сильных лошадей везли поклажу). Two boys led the horses (двое мальчиков = юношей вели лошадей; to lead — вести).

They didn't meet Sir Richard, but they met a fat churchman, a monk.
«Ah! » said Little John. «Do you think this monk is bringing the borrowed money? Have your long bows ready. »
There were fifty-two fighting men with the monk, and seven strong horses carried his things. Two boys led the horses.
Little John, Much, and Will Scarlet held their great bows with arrows ready (Малыш Джон, Мук и Уилл Скарлет держали свои огромные луки со стрелами наготове).
«Stop (стойте)! » cried Little John.
«Who are you (кто вы такие)? » the monk asked.
«We are Robin Hood's men (мы люди Робина Гуда). »

When the fifty-two fighting men heard the name, they ran (когда пятьдесят два вооруженных человека услыхали это имя, они побежали; to run — бежать). Only the two boys stayed with the monk (только двое юношей остались с монахом).

Little John, Much, and Will Scarlet held their great bows with arrows ready.
«Stop! » cried Little John.
«Who are you? » the monk asked. «We are Robin Hood's men. »
When the fifty-two fighting men heard the name, they ran. Only the two boys stayed with the monk.
Robin's men took the monk and his horses to Robin Hood (люди Робина отвели монаха и его лошадей к Робину Гуду).
«Welcome, friend (добро пожаловать, друг), » said Robin Hood. «Where are you from (откуда ты)? »
«From the Abbey of St. Mary (из аббатства Святой Марии). »
«Do you have four hundred pieces of gold that my friend Sir Richard of the Lee paid to your abbot (есть ли у тебя четыреста золотых монет, которые мой друг сэр Ричард из Ли выплатил твоему аббату; to pay — платить)? » asked Robin.
«No, » said the monk. «I have only fifteen pieces of gold — not a penny more (у меня только пятнадцать золотых монет — и ни пенни больше). »

Robin's men took the monk and his horses to Robin Hood.
«Welcome, friend, » said Robin Hood. «Where are you from? »
«From the Abbey of St. Mary. »
«Do you have four hundred pieces of gold that my friend Sir Richard of the Lee paid to your abbot? » asked Robin.
«No, » said the monk. «I have only fifteen pieces of gold — not a penny more. »
«If that is all you have (если это все, что у тебя есть), » said Robin, «I won't take a penny (то я не возьму ни пенни). And if you need more, you can have it (и если тебе нужно больше, ты это получишь: «ты сможешь получить это»; to have — иметь; получать). But Little John must see (но Малыш Джон должен взглянуть /и убедиться, что это так/). »
Little John looked in the monk's bags (Малыш Джон осмотрел сумки монаха). «It's right (все в порядке; right — правильно, верно; точно), » he said. «He has only fifteen pieces of gold (у него только пятнадцать золотых монет), added to the money the abbot has sent us (вдобавок к тем деньгам, которые прислал нам аббат; to add — прибавлять, присоединять; added to — к тому же; в дополнение к). «If that is all you have, » said Robin, «I won't take a penny. And if you need more, you can have it. But Little John must see. »
Little John looked in the monk's bags.
«It's right, » he said. «He has only fifteen pieces of gold, added to the money the abbot has sent us. The abbot is very kind. He has sent the four hundred pieces of gold the knight borrowed from us, and four hundred more! I have counted eight hundred and fifteen pieces of gold. »
«Thank your abbot (благодари своего аббата), » said Robin Hood. «We will keep the eight hundred pieces of gold (мы оставим себе восемьсот золотых монет), and poor people will be very glad to have it (и бедные люди будут очень счастливы получить их; glad — довольный; рад, доволен, счастлив). Take your fifteen pieces (забери свои пятнадцать монет). I won't take a penny of that (я не возьму из них ни пенни). »
The monk rode away, very angry (монах ускакал верхом, очень рассерженный; to ride — ездить верхом, скакать).

The monk rode away, very angry.
Before night fell, Sir Richard of the Lee came to the greenwood tree (прежде чем наступила ночь, сэр Ричард из Ли добрался до того самого дуба; to fall — падать; наступать, опускаться; to come to — приходить, прибывать /в какое-либо место/).

Before night fell, Sir Richard of the Lee came to the greenwood tree.
«I am here, Robin Hood, » he said. «I have brought the four hundred pieces of gold that I borrowed from you. »
Robin Hood said, «The Abbot of St. Mary has paid it for you (настоятель /аббатства/ Святой Марии заплатил их за тебя). I won't take it from you as well as from him (я не возьму их с тебя, после того как я взял их с него: «так же как и с него»). That wouldn't be fair (это будет нечестно; fair — порядочный, честный, справедливый). Take back your money, and help poor people with it (забери свои деньги и помоги ими бедным людям). » He told Sir Richard about the monk, and the knight laughed (он рассказал сэру Ричарду о монахе, и рыцарь рассмеялся).

Robin Hood said, «The Abbot of St. Mary has paid it for you. I won't take it from you as well as from him. That wouldn't be fair. Take back your money, and help poor people with it. » He told Sir Richard about the monk, and the knight laughed.
«I know a lot of poor people, sick yeomen and women and children — who need money (я знаю много бедных людей — больных крестьян, женщин и детей — которые нуждаются в деньгах), » he said.
«Help them (помоги им), » said Robin, «and if you want more money for them, tell me (и если тебе понадобится больше денег для них, скажи мне). We can always get more from rich lords and rich churchmen (мы всегда можем достать еще у богатых феодалов и богатых церковников). — But, tell me, what are those bows and all those arrows for (но, скажи мне, для чего все эти луки и стрелы)? »

«Help them, » said Robin, «and if you want more money for them, tell me. We can always get more from rich lords and rich churchmen. — But, tell me, what are those bows and all those arrows for? »
«They are a present for you and your merry men (это подарок тебе и твоим славным товарищам). My wife and her ladies made the arrows, so they will be good (моя жена и ее служанки сделали стрелы, поэтому они будут бить в цель: «будут хорошими»). »
«Thank you, » said Robin. «And if ever you need help (и если тебе когда-нибудь понадобится помощь), sound your horn three times, like this (проиграй в свой рожок три раза, вот так). » Robin Hood sounded his own horn three times (Робин Гуд продудел в свой собственный рожок три раза), and a hundred men in Lincoln green came running through the forest (и сотня людей в ярко-зеленых костюмах выбежала из леса: «прибежала сквозь лес»).
