A perfect capture of this new play with music at Berkeley Rep. No blackouts or washout and one head that can occasionally be seen at the bottom of the screen, but it doesn't block the action. Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown, The (28 apr 2009. Los Angeles, CA. Cast: Patti Murin, Jenni Barber, Nick Blaemire, Lisa Brescia, Stephen Bogardus. A good mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups shots with very little obstruction, just some heads at the bottom of the wides, and one that pops into frame occasionally and slight washout in the wides. The dialogue is pretty quiet sometimes, but it's all still understandable. The only original song not included here is Bury Me, which was cut before the first night of the workshop and was never performed in front of an audience. Quality: A-)

Underclassman, The (29 nov 2014. New York. Cast: Matt Dengler, Billy Hepfinger, Jessica Grove, Piper Goodeve, Marrick Smith, Jeremy Morse, Jordan Bondurant, Davey Rosenberg, Matt Gibson, Ian Fairlee, Jason Edward Cook, Christopher Herr, Elizabeth Burton, Holland Grossman, Adam Machart, CJ Pawlikowski, Michael Romeo Ruocco, Liz Shivener, Whitney Winfield. Story is adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's “This Side of Paradise” and is inspired by his years at Princeton. Captured well overall, three blackouts in act one. The first three and a half minutes of the show, and two blackouts in the middle of the act that last about two and a half minutes each. A few heads at the bottom of the screen that frequently block the actors feet, but never block the action. Excellent clear sound. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

Presented by Classic Stage Company. It looks like the filmer sat in the second row of a small theatre, so it's filmed well, but off to the side. Quality: B+)

Up Here (15 aug 2015. La Jolla. Cast: Matt Bittner, Betsy Wolfe, Eric Petersen, Nick Verina, Zonya Love, Kikau Alvaro, Andrew Call, N'Jameh Camara, Giovanni Cozic, Mary Glen Fredrick, Jacob Haren, Jeff Hiller, Gizel Jimenez, Zakiya Markland, Lorena Martinez, Sarah Meahl, Devin Ratray, Tamara Rodriguez Mehl, Devere Rogers, Charles South, Graham Stevens. A fantastic capture of this brand new show by the writers of Book of Mormon, Avenue Q, and Frozen. The show is very clever and funny, and the music is great, but it's a bit clunky in places so there are sure to be changes before it does another run. This is very nicely captured with no major blackouts and just a couple quick dropouts and no obstruction. There is a bit of washout in some high contrast scenes. It's filmed in 16: 9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

One quick drop out in act one, but the video complete otherwise with no washout or obstruction. An audience member's hearing device puts out a high pitched squeal that can be heard a couple times, but it's short lived, and the dialogue can be heard clearly over it. Filmed in 16: 9 with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

 

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (7 june 2014. San Diego, CA. Cast: Martin Moran, Marcia DeBonis, Candy Buckley, Tyler Lansing Weaks, Hanefah Wood, Allison Layman. A very nice capture of The Old Globe's production with no washout or obstruction and very steady filming. A two minute blackout before/during Nina's entrance, but otherwise fully captured in 16: 9 with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups and great clear sound. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

Excellent HD capture of the Final Broadway Performance. Very strong performances from the entire cast in this dark Arthur Miller drama. Very nicely filmed with clear sound. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

Very beginning of the show is missing, but it picks up about halfway through Water in the Well and complete from there with a couple quick dropouts. Quality: A-)

Visit, The (30 nov 2011. Broadway. Cast: Chita Rivera, John Cullum, Mark Jacoby, Karen Murphy, Linda Balgord, D. B. Bonds. A Benefit Concert of the Kander & Ebb show with choreography by Ann Reinking. During the first act there are heads that block the far sides in very wide shots, but fixed in act two and not a problem. There are a few blackouts at the start in the first five minutes, due to late comers and being sold out. otherwise complete and very well captured. Quality: A-)

Beautiful capture of this stunning Broadway transfer. This is the performance where the set broke and Sara Bareilles came out while it was being fixed. She sang a cut song from the show and Part of Your World and talked with the audience, which is included. Excellent video with clear picture and sound. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

War Horse (27 june 2011. Broadway. Original Broadway Cast. Rather unfortunate video. It is not shot well at all. Throughout much (almost the majority) of the first act, the camera is aimed too high. The second act gets a bit better, you can actually see the action most of the time, but the camera is so awkwardly focused. There are never any zooms, and there is a bar at the bottom of the shot. 2DVD)
