Outreach to HRC, Allied Groups and Field Staff
- Expanded Obama AAPI National Leadership Council to include HRC and JRE members (35 members).
- Five Subcommittees – Policy, Outreach, Voter Registration, Media, Convention/GOTV
- Policy Committee helped create Obama AAPI Blueprint for Change
- Drafted and issued press release announcing the expanded Leadership Council
- Conducted AAPI Vote conference call briefings for:
- HRC supporters in battleground states; and
- allied organizations
- Completed AAPI questionnaire to the National Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans
- Compiled and distributed AAPI resumes to Regional and Field staff

- Total: 40 Voter Registration Drives held in July and August
- National AAPI Voter Registration Weekend (Aug 16th and 17th): 18 voter registration drives across the country were held across the country in CA, IL, MI, MN, NV, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX, VA, WA
- Surrogate Events:
- CA Assembly member Ted Lieu spoke at the 80-20 Presidential Convention in California, resulting in an endorsement by the group of BO.
- Congressman Mike Honda spoke at National Asian American Association of Professionals Convention in Los Angeles, CA.
- Kal Penn spoke at organizing event in Northern VA
- Mee Moua spoke at a veterans event in MN
- Began tour of AAPI battleground states – Charmaine to NV and Betsy to PA on 8/16 – 8/17
- Democratic National Convention
- AAPI Caucus Meetings – Over 300 people attended each
- Held 3 grassroots training sessions in collaboration with AAPI advocacy organizations (over 75 people attended each)

- Created weekly newsletter, Ka Leo O AAPI, highlighting Senator Obama’s stances on AAPI issues, AAPIs working in the campaign and grassroots AAPI for Obama activities.
- Recorded video greeting from Maya Sotero-Ng in 14 different AAPI languages.
- Created the following AAPI-specific materials: AAPI Blueprint For Change (policy paper), One-Page Issues Fact Sheet, Obama vs. McCain on AAPI Issues Comparison, Health Care Fact Sheet, South Asians Issues Fact Sheet, AAPI for Obama Color Brochure, Why AAPIs Should Vote.
- Created AAPI surname lists for states use to tag AAPI voters.
- Recruited volunteer AAPI state organizers for each battleground state.
- Recruited 15 teams to assist with recruitment of volunteers for the AAPI field program described in the next section.

- Phase 1- September VOTER REG - two weekends, one in each of 2 rounds (First round: Sept. 13-14 or Sept. 20-21. Second round: Sept. 27-28 or Oct. 4-5)
- Phase 2- October PERSUASION/CANVASS - two weekends, one in each of 2 rounds (First round: Oct. 4-5 or Oct. 11-12. Second round: Oct. 18-19 or Oct. 25-26)
- Phase 3- October 31- November 4 GOTV - 2 rounds, continuous (phone banking, rides to polls, etc.
Volunteer Goals for each State
Florida- 100 AAPI volunteers Nevada- 100 AAPI volunteers
Pennsylvania- 100 AAPI volunteers Virginia- 100 AAPI volunteers
Ohio- 75 AAPI volunteers Washington- 50 AAPI volunteers
Oregon- 50 AAPI volunteers Michigan- 50 AAPI volunteers
Minnesota- 50 AAPI volunteers
Volunteers will do two shifts (8 hours each/ 16 hours total) in September *AND* do two shifts (8 hours each/ 16 hours total) in October.
GOAL: ~600 AAPI volunteers in the battleground states every other weekend.
