Obsession (11 may 2017. London. Cast: Jude Law, Robert de Hoog, Chukwudi Iwuji, Aysha Kala, Halina Reijn, Gijs Scholten van Aschat. Multicam proshot of the new production at the Barbican. Broadcast live in cinemas through a satellite feed and this was captured from that feed. Quality: A+)

 

October Sky (2 oct 2016. Old Globe Theatre, San Diego, CA. Cast: Homer Hickam - Kyle Selig, Quentin - Connor Russell, Roy Lee - Patrick Rooney, O'Dell - Austyn Myers, Miss Riley - Sandra DeNise, John Hickam - Ron Bohmer, Elise Hickam - Kerry O'Malley, Dorothy - Eliza Palasz, Ike - Joel Blum, Mr Turner - Nick Sullivan, Ken - Kevyn Morrow. Very well captured with no washout and just a few couple quick dropouts. There is a railing that blocks the actors when they come down into the audience or sit on the edge of the stage. The obstruction is worked around as much as possible, and it's much better in act two. It's filmed in 16: 9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. 2DVD)

Of Mice and Men (14 june 2014. Broadway. Cast: James Franco, Chris O'Dowd, Leighton Meester, Jim Norton, Ron Cephas Jones, Jim Parrack, Alex Morf, Joel Marsh Garland, Jim Ortlieb. Great capture of this classic play with top notch performances. A couple of heads in the shot on occasion but otherwise nice clear video with excellent picture and clear sound. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

 

Oh, Brother! (November 1981. Broadway. Cast: Bruce Adler, Judy Kaye, Harry Groener, David-James Carroll, Michael-Pierre Dean. A musical suggested by William Shakespeare's The Comedy Of Errors. Broadway flop with just 3 official performances. Filmed on a tripod with soundboard sound. Excellent video for the time, very good sound. Quality: A-)

Amazingly good quality for a video of this age, with only minimal generational loss. This video was probably made for a cast member, or maybe for media use at it was filmed from a tripod, with sound patched in directly from the sound board. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

Professional youth production with older teens playing the adult roles (except for Fagin), lengths about 45 mins. Tracking problems during the first half of the opening song, and the dialogue is a little low at points but the video is great. Minor generation loss. Shot with one camera on a tripod. Quality: B+)

 

Oliver! (1996. Mediterranean Conference Center, Malta. Cast: Harry Borg, Claudette Pace, Dean Zammit, Jon Rosser, Daniel Lake. A great production in English, and great performances, especially by Dean Zammit who plays Oliver. Multi-camera proshot with slight generation loss. Quality: A-)

Oliver! (2002. Melbourne, Australia. Cast: John Waters, Tamsin Carroll, Keegan Joyce, Matthew Waters. This show toured through Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore from 2002 through 2004. Keegan Joyce, playing Oliver got rave reviews and was the youngest actor ever to portray the part, he also played the part longer than any other actors in the history of the musical. Camera shaky at times and missing two minutes in Act 2. Quality: B+)

Oliver! ( London. Sept 2010. Russ Abbot (Fagin), Kerry Ellis (Nancy), Steven Hartley (Sikes), Edward Cooke (Oliver), Ben Wilson (Dodger). 16x9 widescreen capture of the revival at Drury Lane. Excellent capture, especially considering how dimly lit this production is. There are maybe two or three minutes total of “grayouts” where the camera adjusts to drops in lighting, and that’s all. Abbot is one of the best Fagins from the two “MackIntosh” runs (Palladium or Drury Lane) and comes across vividly. A)

Oslo is a multiple award-winning play by J. T. Rogers, which recounts (in dramatized, partially fictional form) the true-life, previously secret, back-channel negotiations in the development of the pivotal 1990s Oslo Peace Accords between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The play premiered Off-Broadway in June 2016 and then transferred to Broadway in April 2017. The play won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Play as well as the Best Featured Actor in a Play award for Michael Aronov. Excellent video with clear picture and sound throughout. Quality: A-)

Nicely filmed HD video with great close-ups, clear sound and nice picture throughout. Quality: A-)

 

Pajama Game (18 feb 2006 Broadway CAST: Harry Connick, Jr., Kelli O'Hara, Michael McKean, Peter Benson, Joyce Chittick, Megan Lawrence, Michael McCormick, Roz Ryan, Paula Leggett Chase, Bianca Marroquin Excellent recording of this fabulous production. Great picture and sound. A)

 

Pal Joey (16 nov 2008. Broadway. Cast: Stockard Channing, Christian Hoff, Martha Plimpton, Robert Clohessy, Jenny Fellner, Daniel Marcus, Steven Skybell. Very rare performance as Christian Hoff only ended up doing 7 performances, before he was " injured" and left the production. There is a five minute section toward the middle/end of act one that is blackout; otherwise, beautiful capture, one of the few times widescreen was opted for. Stockard was fabulous in the show. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

J. Griffith - Officer Starnes/Tom Watson, Deidrie Henry - Minnie McKnight/Angela, Brad Anderson - Officer Ivey/Luther Rosser/Guard. One short blackout in the first act, and some washout in the wides. Very little obstruction with some heads on the bottom and the sides, but nothing major)

Cast: Jeremy Jordan, Laura Benanti, Joshua Henry, John Ellison Conlee, Davis Gaines, Alan Campbell, Rachel De Benedet, Ramin Karimloo, Andy Mientus, Katie Rose Clarke, Emerson Steele, Charlie Franklin, Alvin Crawford, Andrea Jones-Sojola, Allie Trimm, Caitlin Houlahan, Ephie Aardema, John Jellison, Eric Anderson, Eric Leviton. A fantastic capture of this one-night-only concert at Avery Fisher Hall conducted by Jason Robert Brown. Excellent video with no obstruction and only slight washout in wide shots. Two quick dropouts in the first few minutes, but the concert is otherwise complete. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

 

Parallelogram, A (11 aug 2013. Los Aageles, CA. Cast: Marin Ireland, Marylouise Burke, Tom Irwin, Carlo Alban. Some scattered blackouts during Act I, the first three are 1-2 minutes each, and the rest are about 30 seconds each, totaling about 9 minutes. Act II is completely intact. No obstruction or washout throughout the show. Filmed in 16: 9, mostly wides and mediums, with a few close-ups. Sound is quiet in places, but you can hear it. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

 

Paramour (11 may 2016. Broadway. Cast: Jeremy Kushnier, Ruby Lewis, Ryan Vona, Bret Shuford, Sarah Meahl, Kat Cunning. Great HD capture of the new and first Cirque du Soleil musical on Broadway. Some really beautiful moments and parts well captured throughout. Quality: A-. 2DVD)

A production of Musicals Tonight Inc., semi-staged concert version. Filmed from the audience so center stage but no full stage shots or camera movement and filmed on an angle. Quality: B-)

Passion (Television presentation broadcast on March 31, 2005 by PBS's " Live from Lincoln Center". Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, Patti LuPone, and Michael Cerveris star in a semi-staged version of a legendary musical theater piece, directed by Lonny Price and accompanied by a 56-piece orchestra. Based on the novel Fosca by Igino Tarchetti and the film Passion d'Amore by Ettore Scola, Sondheim's Passion, with a book by James Lapine, explores love and obsession through the story of Giorgio (Cerveris), an officer in the 1863 Italian army who carries on an affair through the mail with Clara (McDonald), a married woman. Then Fosca (LuPone), the colonel's sickly, wretched sister, becomes obsessed with Giorgio, and her passion begins to eat at his soul. Mastered from VHS by BroadwayBarb and indexed so you can access each song. There's a brief interview with Sondheim at the top and she moved the intermission interviews with the cast to the end)
