5. Retell the text. 6. Read the following dialogue and act it out. Dialogue Ben has just come from the walking tour around Washington, D. C. Tom: So, how was it? Ben: Oh, it was great! Thank you. Tom: Are you tired? Ben: No, not at all, I am pleased and excited. I saw Washington on pictures a lot, but the real city is much more impressive than I thought. Tom: What do you mean? Ben: Washington Monument looks much higher than I thought; it is like the pencil pointed up till the sky. Tom: Sure, it is 555 feet tall and all other buildings in the city are seldom over four or five stories in height because the law forbids it. And due to the Reflecting Pool it looks even taller. Ben: Yes, I agree. That’s what the Reflecting Pool was made for. What about the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial? Did you visit them? Tom: Yes, they are beautiful and impressive as well. Lincoln Statue is marble, and he sits in his chair as if alive. I thought Jefferson Statue would be marble, too, but it is bronze. And on the interior walls of the Memorial the Declaration of Independence is written, all of it. Ben: Did you go to the Capitol? Tom: Yes, we started from Washington Monument, went to the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials past the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. Then we walked back to Washington Monument and went up and saw the magnificent views from the top. Then we walked all the way through the Mall past the museums to the Capitol. Ben: What do you think of the Capitol? Tom: It’s huge and impressive and amazing and beautiful. It reflects classical Greek and Roman architectural design. We went inside. Tom: It is free, you know, all the places in D. C. are open to public for free. I learnt a lot of new interesting facts from the American History and felt the atmosphere of significance when we were allowed to the visitors’ balcony and saw the debates in the Senate. It was so cool! I’ll be telling all my friends that I was present at the Senate debates. Ben: So what are your plans for tomorrow? Tom: Museums. National Air and Space Museum and National Museum of Natural History are my first choices. Ben: Oh, they are my favorite as well. Can I go with you? Tom: Sure. Join our group at 9 tomorrow morning and you’ll go with us. Ben: Great. Thanks a lot.
