Вопрос к подлежащему (Who/What –questions).




Типы вопросов.

Общие (General Questions ) Do you speak English?       – Yes, I do.

                                                                                     – No, I don’t.

                                      Did he read this article?               – Yes, he did.

                                                                                     – No, he didn’t.

Специальные (Special Questions ).

 

                                      When

                                      Where    do          you

                                      What     does       he          study?

                                      How      did

                                      Why

 

Вопрос к подлежащему (Who/What –questions).

 

                                      Who lives in Moscow? - I do. He does.

                                      What happened? - I entered the University.

 

Exercise 6. Ask questions and answer them.

 

Example: He entered the University last year (two years ago).

Did he enter the University last year?

No, he didn’t. He entered the University two years ago.

1. We studied chemistry and physics last year (history and literature). 2. We took exam in English last term (in philosophy). 3. We missed many lectures last month (to attend many lectures). 4. We read some fiction in the reading-room yesterday (newspapers). 6. He wrote a test paper last Monday (last Friday). 7. We trained at the stadium yesterday (in the gym). 8. The students translated this text at the last English lesson (to translate an article). 9. He was in the tenth form two years ago (in the ninth form). 10. My friend’s mother was a school teacher (an engineer). 11. We were in the classroom in the evening (at the club). 12. The students were at the lecture on History last Friday (at the English lesson).

 

Exercise 7. Work in pairs. Ask and answer questions to complete the information.

Example:

Nick Petrov was born in … (When? ) When was he born?

Student  A.

Nick Petrov was born in … (When? ). He went to school in Rostov and Kursk, and then went to … University (Which? ), where he studied history.

After University he went to (Where? ), and spent two years traveling around the Far East. Then he decided to …(What? ), and he went to work for the Red Star newspaper in Moscow. He stayed there for … (How many).

While he was working in Moscow he met his wife Ann. They got married in (When? ), and they have two children.

Nick started working for the Review in … (When? ). Since then he has been to Serbia, Afghanistan and Chechnya. In 2002 he won … (What? ) for his reporting of the situation in Chechnya.

He lives with his wife, their two children and a cat … (Where? ).

Cadet B.

Nick Petrov was born in 1970. He went to school in … (Where? ), and then went to Moscow State University, where he studied … (What? ).

After University he went to Siberia, and spent … (How long? ) traveling around the Far East. Then he decided to apply for a job in journalism and he went to work for … (Which newspaper? ) in Moscow. He stayed there for three years.

While he was working in Moscow he met … (Who? ). They got married in 1995, and they have … children (How many? ).

Nick started working for the Review in 1998. Since then he has been to … (Which countries? ). In 2002 he won a prize for his reporting of the situation in Chechnya.

He lives with … (Who? ) in Moscow.

The Student’s Daily Routine.

Learn the following words

daily routine - распорядок дня

to start with ( morning exercises) - начинаться с ( утренней зарядки)

canteen - столовая

to get up - вставать

to wash - умываться

to dress - одеваться

to last from … till - длиться с … до

to aсquire knowledge - получать (приобретать) знания

to prepare for (the lesson, seminar) - готовиться к уроку, семинару

to have a lecture on - иметь лекцию по …

to be through – закончить

to acquire deep knowledge – приобретать глубокие знания

 

Exercise 1. Read and translate the following words.

 

to start: to start with morning exercises. My daily routine starts with morning exercises.

to last: to last from 9 till 20. 00, to last for 6 hours. Our lesson on History lasts from 3. 30 till 5. 00 p. m.

to be through=to finish=to end=to be over: to be through with studies, to end the work, to finish school. The lesson is over. When they are through with their studies they can have free time.

to prepare: well-prepared, to prepare for the lesson. We usually prepare for the next day classes in the evening.

to have (had): to have a rest, to have a short rest. When the lesson are over we have a short rest.
