PAUL: That’s fine. Are you firs-year students? I think we’ve met before. I’m Paul. I think we live in the same hostel.

ANN Yes, you’re right. My name is Ann. Meet my friend Julia. She is from Moscow.

PAUL; Nice to meet you. The bell is ringing! I hope to see you both in our video-club tonight. A new film is on. See you later.

ANN: So long.

JULIA: So long.

Complete the dialogues.

You want to know something about your groupmates. Think of the questions you would like to ask them (their family, native town, favourite subjects at school and at the institute, hobbies, sports. TV, cinema, books, friends, future plans, etc.).

 

a) Helen (Peter) is having coffee during her (his) morning break. Another first-year student comes in and sits next to her (him). Student A takes the part of Helen (Peter). Student В takes the part of the ether student. Helen (Peter) introduces herself (himself) and tries to find out as much as she (he) can about her (his) groupmate, asking questions.

Duncan is a student in Manchester and Sally is a student in Edinburgh. Read the email Sally wrote after visiting Duncan. Answer the questions. Write an informal email after a visit to a friend. Show it to a partner.

Hi Duncan,

Thanks for last weekend. It was really great. The meal was fantastic – didn't know you could cook! Just kidding;-) Email me the recipe. I'd like to make cottage pie for my friends here - they're always starving hungry!

The journey was sooooooooooo long and boring – the coach stopped at a motorway service station where I had a disgusting cheese sandwich and a cold coffee.

I slept for the rest of the journey – not surprising really – we did dance ALL night! House Rules was a brilliant club, but going to bed at 4 and getting up at 8 to go back to Edinburgh was awful! You're a star for getting up early to take me to the coach station!

Everyone here is worried about the exams. They start next week, like yours. It was good to forget about them for the weekend! I miss you a lot. Come and visit me soon – it’s cheap on the coach.
