(Measuring the exhaust gas at idle [when cata-lytic converter is operating])
1. Stand the scooter on a level surface.
NOTE:
• Place the scooter on a suitable stand.
• Make sure the scooter is upright.

CO/HC tester 1
sampling probe 2
NOTE:
Й Since it is necessary to insert the sampling.
Й Probe 600 mm (23.6 in) into the exhaust pipe, be sure to use a heat-resistant rubber tube as shown in the illustration.
Й Be sure to set the heat-resistant rubber tube so that exhaust gas does not leak out.
Й Before using the carbon CO/HC tester, be sure to read the user’s manual.

7. Measure:
• carbon monoxide density
• hydrocarbon density
Out of specification → Replace the muffler assembly.
Carbon monoxide density (when catalytic converter is operating)
0.2 ~ 1.2% (Reference value)
8. After replacing the muffler assembly, recheck the exhaust gas at idle when cata-lytic converter is operating.

ADJUSTING THE ENGINE IDLING SPEED
NOTE:
Prior to adjusting the engine idling speed, the throttle bodies synchronization should be adjusted properly, and the engine should have adequate compression.
1. Remove:
• right side cover
Refer to “SIDE COVER MOULDINGS AND
LEG SHIELD”.
2. Start the engine and let it warm up for sev-eral minutes.
3. Check:
• engine idling speed
Out of specification → Adjust.
Engine idling speed 1,100 ~ 1,300 r/min

3 ~ 5 mm (0.12 ~ 0.20 in)

Prior to adjusting the throttle cable free play, the engine idling speed and throttle bodies synchronization should be adjusted properly.

NOTE:
When the scooter is accelerating, the acceler-ator cable 1 is pulled.
Throttle body side
Ф Loosen the locknut 1 on the decelerator cable.
Ф Loosen the locknut 2 on the accelerator cable.
Ф Turn the adjusting nut 3 in direction a or b until the specified throttle cable free play is obtained.

d. Tighten the locknuts.
NOTE:
If the specified throttle cable free play cannot be obtained on the throttle body side of the cable, use the adjusting nut on the handlebar side.

Х Slide back the rubber cover
Х Loosen the locknut 1.
Х Turn the adjusting nut 2 in direction a or b until the specified throttle cable free play is obtained.
