6. Read the following dialogues and act them out.

Dialogue 1

Nick: Hi, Lena. Where are you going?

Lena: Hello, Nick. I am going to the University. Today we have classes in English.

Nick: What do you usually do there?

Lena: We learn to translate from English into Russian and to speak English. I’d like to improve my English as I am fond of it.

Nick: Do you really think it is necessary to know English well?

Lena: Of course, I do. A good specialist always uses foreign literature in his work.

Nick: What are your plans for the nearest future? Do you want to present your diploma work in English?

Lena: Of course, I do. I’ll try to do my best to master English at the University.

Nick: Wish you luck.

Lena: The same to you.

Dialogue II

- Hi, George!

- Hi, Ann, how are you?

- I feel great. I have just got back from the sports center of the University.

- I didn’t know you were doing any sports.

- Oh yes, I have got quite a few exercise classes. On Mondays and Wednesdays I do fitness. It helps me to keep fit.

- That’s true. You look great. Do you do any other kind of sport?

- Of course I do. I go to the gym and do weight training for two hours. It is the best way to build up your muscles. But what do you do to make your life healthier?

- I also do some exercises. I go running every day before breakfast. And I do exercises every night before I go to bed. I do press-ups and sit-ups.

- Why don’t you come with me to the gym of the University? You will have the opportunity to train more. Your exercises are simply a warm up before real training.

- You are right, I should try it.

- Then see you tomorrow and go together.

- It’s a great idea. Bye.

- See you, bye.

(to keep fit- сохранять форму; gym – тренажерный зал; weight training-тренироваться с гантелями; to do press-ups and sits-ups – отжиматься и приседать; a warm up – разминка)

Dialogue 3

- Hi, Igor. How are you getting on? How is your student life?

- Hi, Misha. I am really OK. I became free and independent from my parents at last. I can do what I want but…

- What? Ah, I see. But you also have to do lots of deals by your own… to cook, to clean your room, do washing up, ironing, go shopping. Am I right?

- Yes, I can’t figure out how to do my home task and my house work at the same time. Besides I can’t get used to sleep when someone is doing  something around.

- I know what you are talking about. Do you live in the student campus?

- Yes, that’s right. It is near the university and it takes me few minutes to get home after the lectures so I have more time for studying.

- Yes, it’s very convenient and cheap to live there. I like my dorm too. And what do you feel about studying? It strongly differs from school, doesn’t it?

- Yes, I’ve got it. It is easier than studying at school. I don’t have to do my home task every day, I can visit only few lectures a week because nobody pays attention if you are in or not, . .

- Stop, stop. You are absolutely wrong. Studying at the university is not easier as you think. It is more serious and requires much responsibility from you. If you want to pass your exams well and in time you shouldn’t miss the lectures, you should read more, prepare all tasks and be ready to take part in discussions on the topics. You should be more initiative and hardworking. The best students receive the upper scholarship and they can be recommended to the potential employers.

- Oh, Now I’ll try to do my best. Thanks a lot for your advice.

- Never mind.
