b) addressee, dedicatee, donee, grantee, interviewee, nominee, trainee, votee.

Exercise 1

 

Form adjectives in –able (-ible) from the following verbs. Translate both the verb and the adjective into Russian.

 

Bear, break, credit, digest, drink, excite, express, move, pardon, pass, pronounce, solve.

Exercise 2

 

Translate the following sentences into Russian. Point out to what stems the suffix –ly was added. State its meaning.

1. He bore no resemblance of a successful doctor, but was, on the contrary, wizened and slovenly.

2. Luckily, she had no money – a beggarly fifty pound a year.

3. They stood beside this thin and saintly Englishwoman.

4. Dr. Swain was taking his usual nightly walk before going home.

5. Edward masked a faint priestly blush by show of worldly candour.
