Exercise 1. Analyze the form of the verb in the following sentences. Translate the sentences into Russian.

Exercise 7. Paraphrase the following sentences according to the pattern.


Pattern: I don’t know him well, I can’t remember his phone number.

If I knew him well, I would remember his phone number.

Exercise 8. Think of questions using “if” which might produce the following answers.


Pattern:— What would you do if you had a yacht?I would go on a round-the-world trip.


1. I’d tell everybody about it. 2. I’d examine the case before giving my opinion. 3. I’d share it with my family and friends. 4. I’d call the fire brigade. 5. I’d avoid seeing him/her. 6. Exercise 9. Recall the questions that were asked in the previous exercise. Give your own answers to those questions.


Exercise 10. Insert “if” or “unless” into the blanks in the sentences.

Exercise 21. Paraphrase the following sentences according to the pattern.

Exercise 22. Write sentence chains with if to show how things could have been different.
